The Deep East Texas Singing Convention was founded in 2018 at Promised Land Baptist Church by Freeman and Judy Thompson, who aimed to promote God's word and preserve the tradition of "convention singing" in the region. Their efforts also supported the Texas Southern Gospel School of Music. After years of dedication, in 2025 the Thompsons passed the responsibility to Roberson Family Ministries, who have strong ties to both East Texas and Southern Gospel Music. The Robersons are excited to continue the legacy of the convention and carry it forward into the future.
